What do young people and children in care and care leavers tell us about friendship?

Consultations with young people and children in care and care leavers highlight some strong feelings about friendship from the people most affected by the care system.

Care Leavers
Click on the link to see what care leavers tell us. Many of the care leavers (now adults) are in a unique position to be able to reflect on their entire childhood and reveal how little importance was placed on the value of their friendships with their peers.

Young people in care
Young people currently in care were also asked to contribute their views. Follow the link to find quotes about friendship, life stories and the difficulties young people face trying to make friends after moving placement.

Ealing Junior Council
Ealing Junior Council responded to an article in ‘Who Cares’ Magazine asking for young people’s views on friendship. They did their own research and produced an excellent leaflet which useful for Foster Carers, Social Workers and other young people. They have agreed to let us share their leaflet so follow the link to see their brilliant piece of work.
